Welcome to Handmade Bikes!
Handmade Bikes is a website featuring just what it says in the title – handmade bikes!
We aim to bring you reports, features and tests of the best the handmade bike scene has to offer.
We'll feature bikes from bike builders the world over. The best in custom built, bespoke bike making. We'll also feature bikes which don't fit into the made-to-measure category, but are nevertheless worthy of admiration thanks to their care and attention to design, build quality and finishing.
What we won't be featuring are the bikes you'll find down at the shopping mall; the big-box brands offering little in the way of individuality and even less in style.
As well as contemporary bikes - be they race bikes featuring cutting-edge composites, or elegant town bikes for those who prefer life at a more sedate pace - we'll also feature components and accessories that catch our eye for being that little bit different; the bits and bobs striving to better their mediocre, standard-equipment counterparts.
We'll also feature some fine clothing; not your run-of-the-mill lycra or spandex offerings, but bike wear that offers more in the way of style and tailoring of functional materials than the usual stretch-to-fit race gear.
There'll be event reports from bike shows big and small ... but each time we report on a bike show, we'll be seeking out the stuff the other magazines and websites miss; the bikes and equipment setting trends, not just following them.
Added to all this, we'll also be bringing you features on the people who make handmade bikes; the framebuilders who put their heart and soul into their craft to produce not only bikes that are fitted to the style, shape and needs of the rider, but bikes that look as fabulous as they are functional.
Then there's the 'Heritage' section, featuring iconic bikes by iconic builders; bikes heralded as trendsetters and sources of inspiration for their contemporaries as well as becoming benchmarks of quality for other builders to aspire to.
There'll be so much more to see and read as Handmade Bikes develops over the coming months, but rest assured, the aim is to make this a website free of the usual marketing spin found in the mainstream commercial media.
Whatever direction you're riding from; whether hardcore racer, leisurely tourist, weekday commuter or weekend bike-lover, Handmade Bikes is the place for you.
