2010 is turning out to be an eventful year for Milani Cycles.
The firm from Gallarate, 35km northwest of Milan, in Italy's bike-building heartland have scooped not one, but TWO prestigious awards in the last few weeks. First, the winter blues were banished with news their Velocità Urbana single-speed/fixed model had landed the "Best Ride" award from Wallpaper*, the leading international design, fashion and lifestyle magazine.
The bike, built in their Gallarate workshops from a custom mix of Columbus Brain Cyclex steel tubes and vintage Cinelli lugs, features Miche components, but as befits its custom-made status is also available with componentry of the riders' choice. However, one option any rider would be happy to retain is its striking, timeless paint and graphics design - no doubt one of the major factors influencing the Wallpaper* judges panel.
Just one award of this calibre would be enough for one company, but a few days later came the news of another Milani Cycles triumph.
The Veloce, a design collaboration with Italian automobile legends Maserati, has bagged the 'Best Road Bike of 2010' award by T3 Magazine, the leading showcase for the best in technology and design.
T3 (short for 'Tomorrow's Technology Today') handed the award to Milani on the strength of its outstanding design, attention to detail and overall build quality.
Celeste Milani, who in 2007, took over the company founded by his father Natale in 1927 said :
The Maserati Veloce represents the synthesis of everything we have achieved through research and experimentation in the field of carbon fibre. Every single component has been made to the highest standard, from the tubes to the smallest parts and accessories, using the best assembly techniques, to achieve an extremely rigid and light structure but at the same time one which is easy to ride and gives the best possible performance. For Celeste - probably one of the most enthusiastic, driven guys you're likely to meet in the world of handmade bikes - these awards represent not only a personal triumph, but serve as recognition of the sterling work by the whole team behind Milani Cycles. Without doubt, the family firm has come a long way in such a short time since its 2007 relaunch.
Thanks to the no-compromise approach in constructing its steel, alu and carbon fibre ranges, Milani looks set to continue turning heads with its quality, stylish and desirable machines for some time to come.
Forza Milani!
